Haiku stuff

on yer case stuff

I notice that only a few free radicals have signed the online petition mentioned in the last edition regarding the government enquiry into the possible banning of all public photography. This is something that could possibly affect us all. And what next? burning books? Before you know it we’ll all be eating Soylent Green. So get off your apathetic butts and make a stand. This is the link. It's legit - www.petitiononline.com/ausphoto/petition.html
Also last edition’s call for more HeadOn votes elicited 7 responses, but muddied the waters still more. We still have 3 portraits tied on 3 votes each, but now there are 6 on two votes and a long tail of singles. All the images are on the HeadOn website http://www.headon.com.au Scroll through them and make your choice as to which image you think should have won HeadOn 2007. Be decisive - choose one image only, and send an email to free radicaloz [at] gmail.com with the authors name of your pick in the subject line.

editorial stuff

Why is it if you leave a slice of bread and a biscuit side by side on the kitchen bench overnight, in the morning the bread is hard and the biscuit soggy?

new members stuff

No new members since last the edition. Isn’t there anyone out there who wants to add to our membership numbers? Where else can you get life membership of anything for ten bucks?
Looking for a different Xmas present for someone close who has everything? How about a free radical membership for a Xmas gift?
A new consignment of badge blanks has arrived and at ten bucks it won’t break the bank. And membership is for life, so it just keeps on giving and giving. Send cash in an envelope to free radical World HQ and your very trendy Xmas gift will be in the return post.

Births and Deaths stuff

We farewell industry stalwart Max Townsend who shuffled off to the big darkroom in the sky a on October 16th. Max was a founding partner in the lab Townsends Colourtech, and was instrumental along with Peter Foedon in setting up the AIPP merit awards system. Our sympathies to Max’s family and friends.

Exegesis, or explanation, is a metaphor for our exhibiting photographers' representation of defining moments in cultural behavior - rituals that make us human. Bromoil 100 years on. Celebrating a century of the Bromoil process, Chris Lim curates an exhibition of International and Australian artists that share a desire for this beautiful form of artistic expression.
Emphasizing mood and atmosphere, this alternative photographic process was a favourite among pictorial photographers. As photo-realism and instant photography become more popular Bromoil prints, and various other time consuming craft oriented photographic processes, faded to almost total obscurity. Fortunately a group known as the Bromoil Circle of Great Britain kept the Bromoil process alive through a consistent program of exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations.
Bromoil, 100 Years On is a collection of works including vintage images from members of the Bromoil Circle such as the founder Sam Weller and past presidents Frank Williams and Trevor Jones. The Melbourne Camera club has also been very generous in providing vintage Bromoils by Harold Cazneaux and John Eaton. International artists include Sam Weller, Tom Shipley, L.A. Howell, F.E. Jones, Trevor Jones, Frank Williams, and Maija McDougal. Representing Australian artists are Harold Cazneaux, John Eaton, with new works by Robert Carew, Wendy Currie, Karena Goldfinch, Bronwyn Hendy, and Christine Lim.
